Originally formed as the Duwamish Fire Department on May 22, 1932. Became King County Fire District #1 on July 21, 1935, the first fire district in both King County and the State of Washington. Fire District #1 contracted for service with Tukwila in 1986 and was annexed into the City of Tukwila in March of 1989.
